Without wanting to dismiss the effect of the recent demise of travel firm XL which affected close on to half a million people, talking to friends recently I found myself explaining to them why in the current economic environment, homeowners are better putting their money into replacement energy efficient windows than holidays - or even arguably following this week’s news about Bradford and Bingley - than a savings account!
The B+B comparison is a little tongue in cheek but windows being a safer bet than holidays is a pretty solid argument. While some of the XL customers were covered by credit card insurance or ABTA, most weren’t. In contrast, consumers getting replacement windows fitted by FENSA registered installers who must offer an insurance backed guarantee can rest assured that their investment is safe, unlike their holidays.
With the credit crunch biting, and home becoming increasingly important to people, now is the time for installers to show homeowners how energy efficient replacement windows are guaranteeed to add value to their home in the long term because of EPCs etc but in the short term provide better more thermally efficient, cosy homes with lower fuel bills. I know where I’d put my money…………..

Hi Alan
I like your idea.
And if people buy lots of energy efficient windows from me, I may be able to afford a nice holiday

The best Energy Efficient Windows may save a householder £1.06 per per anum - excellent!
A Secured By Design patio door might save them a great deal more from all the redundant window fitters who know how to break into any old patio door.
Put your money where it’s safe .. and put Palmers patio door predictions to shame.
Take a look at www.sliders-uk.com …
your customers and competitors will … even if you don’t!
And we’d be delighted to hear from you too RCG - we’ve a lot more to offer since you were last buying from us!!

Hi Ian
Oooh! I’m sure your £1.06 per annum figure will upset quite a few in the window game!
Nice to hear from you, though. We always had a great service from Sliders UK when we bought from you. It’s just we make our own patios now for the dealer network.
I’ve heard you’re doing VS’s now.

Hi RCG
Nice to hear from you too and thanks for the compliment. I’m not sure which patio door you are making now but er … not quite all the network buy from you mate .. and we’d rather talk to you than the others!
I hope my comment won’t upset too many - energy efficiency is a worthwhile objective (it’s worth noting that patio doors being mostly glass and hence benefiting hugely from solar gain outperform many other products) and anything to sell-up in this market is welcome as far as I’m concerned.
Security is just such a big issue these days I though the comparison was worth making.
Do you make your own VS’s too or could we talk to you about them?
Best
Ian

Hi Ian
We make the Synseal Shield patio door for most of our dealers, but I don’t have an issue if some dealers buy from you.
We don’t make VS’s - I think that’s something for the specialists! I’m happy to talk to you about these.

Great … but forgive me I’m a bit slow - I might need to know who you are and get your telephone number!
Best Regards,
Ian

Can’t think where the £1.06 per annum came from but congratulations anyway on turning it into a pitch for Patio Doors. Let’s get them energy rated too!
