We’ve had an unusually high number of those letters from suppliers this year…the dreaded price increase letters!
So, I’m thinking of sending this to all my suppliers:
Dear [supplier],
As you may be aware from recent media reports the economy is facing increasingly hard times, with the credit crunch, high inflation, falling house prices, rising fuel costs and poor consumer confidence.
Our company has continued to absorb raw material price increases and higher wage demands, and tough competition in the marketplace driving down prices.
In order to ensure our conservatory company remains efficient and profitable we have made numerous improvements to our cost base, but recent increases have put is in a position we hoped to avoid.
So, it is with great regret that I must inform you that as from 1st July it will be necessary to impose a 6% discount to all materials your company deliver to our company. I am sure that you will understand that this price reduction is required in order for us to be in a position to continue purchasing products from [supplier].
We sincerely hope to avoid future price decreases and look forward to continuing to build a profitable business relationship in the future for both our companies (especially ours).

But, don’t you think your sealed unit supplier may have had quite a few of these letters? Remember there is a cartel in the glass industry!

I’ve sent one to my frame supplier.! We’ll see what happens…
