When I attended Glassex last year I was very impressed with the Ultraframe stand, and some of their new product developments.
I was particularly excited by the new Veranda system they had on display as a prototype, which they were suggesting was the first new conservatory design to be launched in the UK for years.
Anyway, I’ve decided to have one installed on my own home and this is the design I’m going for:

During last year I had my whole house re-rendered and installed cream Artisan uPVC windows, and repainted the render in a matching cream.
But the existing T-Shape Rosewood conservatory now sticks out like a sore thumb. Also, considering I work in the industry I didn’t really spec my own conservatory particularly well, the main problem being I didn’t put satisfactory heating in.
So, I’ve ordered the above conservatory system from Ultraframe and using aluminium bi-folding doors to the front and aluminium side frames. We’re also going for the Sage Green colour, which I hope will blend nicely with cream coloured render.
I just love the idea that we’ll be able to open up the doors at the front, and sit out partially covered by the Veranda roof. Even though we’ll be making the conservatory slightly smaller than the existing conservatory, I feel we’ll make better us of the area which will open up nicely to the garden.
So, if anybody is interested in buying a Rosewood T-Shape Conservatory 5m wide by 4.5m projection let me know. It’s around 3 years old. If not, I’ll stick it on eBay and hope for the best.
I’m also thinking of taking pictures of the build process and sharing my conservatory experience on here if people are interested.

Have you got any one in mind to install it or will it go to tender?
No plans yet. Are you offering your services?
I will fight West Yorkshire Windows for the Job, I know paint applicators in our area if you need any reccos.
Ultraframe are supplying the complete conservatory to me, including all the frames in the sage green.
I wasn’t wanting to pay anyone for the installation. Still interested?
Where`s the guttering and rwp go ?
Perhaps we could get some type of bidding war and pay you to let us do it.
Does look good though.
can move old conservatory to end of garden and use as greenhouse and grow tomatoes to suplement conservatory business?
Nige – glad you asked about that. The guttering is cloaked by a big round powder coated aluminium section which looks really swish. And then we’re having a chain section down the left hand side against the wall, so the rainwater drains down the metal chain. Really nice.
Mike – yeah, great idea. I would of course promote your company if you paid me to install it
Canbanjo – like the tomatoes idea. Unfortunately, my Dad has now agreed to take it off my hands, and he’s going to reinstall it on his villa in Spain. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s liveable…
Mathew, Are we talking just five figures or more?
Mike – I’m not greedy. £10,000 in cash would be fine (if you bring the lead, silicone and screws).
The roof glass is over 3 metres? It`s gonna need muntin bar.Not a brilliant idea on a low pitch!Plus it`s not good to look at..Like the sound of the chain
Nige – The muntin bar goes above the ringbeam so won’t be visible, and we’re setting the pitch at 7 degrees so should be ok.
You don’t like the look of it? Gosh.
Actually – just figured you were probably referring to the look of the muntin bar, ‘cos the conservatory looks swish imho.
Think it looks very swish.!! Do they have one at ultraframe on display (might nip in to have a butchers) Looks like there getting their act together agajn!!
Nige – yes, I believe they do have one on display, although I understand the Veranda roof has not been fully launched yet.
10,000 cash, brown envelope, no money left for screws etc, Can’t I use foam, acetoxy silicone and flash band, like all the others.
Well, I measured it myself, so may need a few tins of foam maybe.
I think you are spot on Matthew with your assessment of why conservatories have gone out of fashion.
White, plastic, gruby hot houses in summer and fridges in winter.
The future is definitely the more contemporary look, probably aluminium and multi-fold doors to create the alfresco thing in the good weather but high spec glass to make them easy and economical to heat in the winter.
Do you need to get the veranda style from Ultraframe? I am sure there are plenty of aluminium roof manufacturers who will do the same sort of thing, am I being naive there, are they perhaps giving you a tiny discount?
Andy – I’ve not seen an aluminium section that looks as good as the Ultraframe design to be honest. And, no, I didn’t want any favours from Ultraframe.
I will have to have a look at the ultraframe system Matthew, I assume it has painted PVC-u cappings, it just seems to me if you are having aluminium in the sides that it would be better with aluminium on the top
Andy mac- painted PVU-u cappings were 5 years ago.I`d think the cappings will be ali with foil on them. Are you a ali roof salesman??
I was thinking about this design of conservatory last weekend and can see an inherent flaw with all these bi fold designs – ventilation. This seems a shame cause they look great.
Nobody wants to open a door just to get some air movement and the conservatory shown in the pic is a great example of this with no openers and no roof vents.
If you are interested I can point you in the direction of a repuatable supplier for an air con unit?
Hi Anthony
I’ve ordered the conservatory with two electric roof vents so I should be OK. We’re also going to put a window in the full wall so we should be OK.
Cheers
Matthew
Anthony – we can overcome your concern with tilt/turn window in traffic door of the bifolds (courtesy of Sunflex)
Some of our customers have installed awnings externally above the lean to roof – works well
As Matthew points out, opening roof vents work well to dispel hot air (no euphemism intended there…!) … preferably on a thermostat with rain sensor
Matthew – will there be room in the full wall for a window (taking into account your cinema screen on there!)
Getting on to more interesting things…what a game last night…
Hope business is picking up for everyone…we’ve found the last few weeks have certainly improved…though Jan/Feb hole still needs far more filling…
meant to add, I have to agree with Mr McCafferty that should you wish for a contemporary look go aluminium all the way…might eat my words when I see completed job at the opening party!!!
Good idea. I should have a conservatory opening party, although immediate problem is finding a builder to start the work!
possibly better to invite potential customers opposed to free loaders like me!
