It’s been all over the news today that eleven million homes are to be given help to reduce bills in the biggest Government backed programme to modernise household energy use for more than 40 years.
Utility companies will fund most of an additional £1 billion for energy efficiency measures over the next three years, Gordon Brown is likely to announce on Thursday.
About four million of Britain’s poorest households, people on benefit and people over 70, will be eligible for free loft and cavity insulation. More affluent households, yet to be defined, will be able to claim discounts on household improvements designed to reduce energy consumption. The likely focus of the package will be assistance with energy efficiency measures like loft insulation, new boilers and double glazing.
Mr Darling, the Chancellor said, ‘Soon we will announce how we will help people reduce their energy bills not just for this winter but for every winter.
‘Millions of homes to benefit, and thousands of jobs to be created from becoming a more energy efficient society.’
I’m cautiously optimistic that this could be very good news for the double glazing industry. Obviously, it depends upon the detail of this package, though.

And the other question are they going to meens test the applicants to check income before they’ll pass any grants on? Or is it going to be only social housing stock.

I won’t be voting Labour ever again!. Another talking point. As a regular reader of your site and agree with your comments. The qustion I would put is “who is going to monitor the funding or grants”? The LA’s because once they have top sliced for their admin charges there wont be nothing left or very little for the punters. By the way, whats has happened to this Dekura Ventutre you spoke about three weeks ago. As we are a smaLL company and could do with some work.

Hi Pete
I did provide an update on the recycling. It’s going very well. We’re sending about 100-150 scrap frames per week to Dekura for recycling.

Update:
Forget it, I’m not voting Labour after all.
I’ve checked all the news today, and can’t find any reference to assistance to the double glazing industry, by awarding grants for energy efficient windows.
Lots of talk about cavity wall and loft insulation, but no mention about the more expensive double glazing option.

Cheap fix from them yet again, cavity wall they’ve already got that for over 70’s free anyway and loft insulation. Just a load of spin yet again… Even if they made energy rated windows 5 % VAT or something it would certainly bring them into the realms of standard double glazing .
In fact why don’t we all just put 5% VAT on them give that to the government on our next return, and all meet up for a pint in Wandsworth Prison.
Andrew.
