How to get rid of a double glazing salesman

August 15th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Ring the police…

In the news again this week is Weatherseal, again for pushy sales techniques.

Apparently, a couple from Worcester Park, south London, were so desperate to get rid of one of their salesmen that they had to dial 999. Bizarrely, the couple, who have two small children, didn’t want to go for the £31,000 double glazing package on offer straight away and on several occasions politely asked him to leave.

The Weatherseal guy was clearly in there for the long haul, though, so the couple were forced to ring the police and then hand the phone over to the salesperson, whereupon the policeman at the other end of the line ordered him to leave, which he reluctantly did.

They had earlier received a cold call setting up the meeting.

Weatherseal said it did not believe the man worked for the company. Yeah right!

    This is a real problem.

First off, all salesmen have a right to sell their products, all businesses a right to offer their products as solutions, but when will this salesperson, this company, and this industry learn?

“Outstaying a welcome” leads to bad publicity for everyone associated with the “double glazing industry”, we all get tarred with this image wether it justified or not, besides which customers forced into something they dont want will generally cancel the next day.

    Keep it simple.

Be polite, educate them why your better than the rest, give them your best offer and ask for the order. Letting clients make their own decisions, in their own time, may get fewer orders but they rarely cancel contracts, what’s more they’ll recommend others and say how nice you were!
