I’m really keen to hear other points of view, so I actively encourage guest contributions.
If you have a topic which you think will be of interest to the readers of Renegade Conservatory Guy, then please send them through to me at matthew@conservatoryoutlet.co.uk.
Please do not send me press releases, or contributions which are merely self promotion. We need opinions which stimulate debate if possible. I’m also keen to get people’s opinions through interviews, so if you would like to be interviewed then please get in touch - you don’t have to be the boss of a big business. I’m happy to interview you if you empty the bins for a double glazing company!
My hope is that this website becomes less and less about me, and more about the industry as a whole - a forum for those who care about the industry to express their opinions in a constructive manner for the benefit of us all.

How about doing a small piece on your new marketing & advertising Company ‘Motionlab’ who, I believe are doing some fabulous work with Conservatory Outlet dealer websites and generating record enquiries in a very tough market place?

Firstly can I say that the emergence of this site has been long overdue in our industry, which in my 26 years experience ,has mostly seen critical comment suppressed in favour of PR release’s masquerading as ‘news’ .
I feel I am representative of a sizeable section of today’s industry -yes still trading!-namely having started off in the eighties fitting & then progressing to running my own small local business.
The other day I received-together with many others I guess- a mail shot from Ultraframe which was trumpeting various inovations of their trading years from 1983-2008.
The piece that caught my attention was was their recent introduction of ‘the polycarbonate support bracket’.
Well, well ,well better late than never chaps! But why so long in coming up with a solution I ask?
For as long as I can remember ’sheet creep’ particularly on brown roofs has been a constant bug bear for any installer commited to giving long term service.
Which leads me nicely to my real gripe: Glass unit muntin bars. as used when joining two units together to form a longer sheet in a conservatory roof.
In my view every single roof manufacturer -not just Ultraframe-has ducked the serious issue of the complete un-suitability of this cricial component in producing a leak proof solution to a problem which has given so much grief to customers & installers alike.
When we charge many £kkk’s for a bespoke conservatory, why do system companies expect us to place our faith in a joint that depends 100% on silicon? Any fool knows it is just wishfull thinking (or luck) to expect a joint of this nature to last for 10 years +. When I have tried to raise this issue with various suppliers, I have been either ignored or fobbed off with ‘its the installers responsibility’
I wonder in how many other industries does this ‘dumped on from a great height’ approach exist to solving problems, that should be of primary concern to suppliers when attempting to otherwise sing the praises of thier products, and presumably forge long term relationships with installers?
Well here’s an open challenge for any supplier reading this who begs to differ:
Take your heads out of the sand, either devise a solution we both have confidence in or come to site and impart your expertise with others, so that we NEVER have to return to carry out remedial work within the guarantee period.

Totally agree Ian,while they’re designing the munting bar solution can they do something simalar for roof vents. Having experienced the technology that schuco aluminium curtain walling has on offer i cant see why this can be such a problem.

The only roof vent on the market that doesn’t leak {unless it’s fitted upside down} is the Sky-Vent product.
Its a pretty good roof vent and one that has been copied by Brett Martin & K2 over the years.
