Gossip etc

Having a blog widely read by members of the double glazing industry has its advantages and its disadvantages.

One of the advantages is you find out lots of gossip.

One of the disadvantages is you find out lots of gossip.

Sometimes I get to find out information that I wouldn’t normally have known and this can be useful, but the problem can be when I get supplied with information that is just that – gossip. So, I spend time investigating the gossip and find out its not true and find myself wasting time when I should be working.

I also find that people ring me about things assuming that I must know the answer.

On the flip side, other people don’t tell me stuff just in case I say something on the blog :-)

Can I just confirm to the world that I know nothing malicious, and if I did I wouldn’t add it to this website.

Unless of course it’s very juicy gossip.

One of the advantages of having this blog is the amount of new people I have met. One example is Dave Ruzicka of Sash UK. Considering we both run PVCu manufacturing plants within 30 minutes of each other, I had never met Dave until a brief meeting at the GlassTalk event.

He invited me to visit Sash UK’s factory and I visited on Tuesday. What a place!!!! Wow, it was like visiting a proper factory. If you don’t currently buy your trade frames from me, and for whatever reason are unlikely to buy your frames from me, then I suggest you give Dave a ring.

Sash UK

If you cut Dave in half it would read ‘Sash UK’ and he has been one of the more lively, outspoken and charismatic individuals in the double glazing industry over the last 20 years. His honesty is refreshing and it is clear to me that he has restructured the company in such a way that Sash UK is well positioned to succeed over the coming years.

I’ve suggested he should come and have a ‘very short walk’ around our humble factory in Wakefield when he gets a chance…

I should be able to give more detail about GlassTalk at the end of next week. There’s no point me going into detail now but can confirm that we are likely to hold the next event in early November in the North of England, and then potentially another one in May of next year (and probably down south or ‘darn sarth’ as they say down there).

I haven’t studied the detail of the recent budget, but from what I’ve heard there has been little assistance for the double glazing sector. I read an interesting article on the following blog post about the budget:

http://dofonline.co.uk/blogs/treasury-matters/financial-crisis/2009-budget-destroys-value-122251/

The guy concludes that the money invested in the vehicle scrappage scheme would have been better invested in encouraging people to insulate their homes further:

“The money should rather be used to encourage people to insulate their houses better and replace single glazing windows with double glazing windows. That doesn’t destroy value, but creates lasting value and at the same time reduces the CO2 emission and cuts future heating bills. Yes maybe some people would have done it anyway, just like buying a new car, but I would accept this to get the economy moving again.”

Personally, I do feel the market has turned without Government intervention. I’d be interested to know how other companies are getting on as Conservatory Outlet will have a record week in the factory this week, and lead levels are very healthy. For those companies willing to go out and look for the work, there is plenty of it out there.

Finally, I’d like to thank all the people who visited my Just Giving page and made a donation to help educate orphaned and destitute children in India. Paul your donation was most welcome – thank you! If you did forget to donate last time, here’s the link:
