I was just browsing around eBay this morning to find out if anyone were still selling conservatories and windows on there.
I was surprised to find the following listing and I must admit, I didn’t realise how bad the current recession was affecting some companies in our industry.

Looks like a tombstone. Hard times!
Have noticed the navigation on the website doesn’t work either. On the plus side the have over the years installed over 7000 roofs in Devon & Cornwall. Maybe they should contact all those customers to see how needs new spar end caps.
I’m not so sure if it is a bad thing, why not if you’ve got stacks of stock of parts and bits and bobs that are just sat there gathering dust, sell it I say. But perhaps under a different name… I know I’ve got surplus Hoppe handles which potentially will never get used, Maco Shoot bolt locking systems, the list is quite expansive as buying items from a liquidator from a local glazing company that went through I have acquired things which I don’t need I’ve had what I want out of the purchase so I’d like to sell the bits on.
Perhaps we need an auction website for the window industry to up load all the tat that is lying around out there. maybe http://www.windowauction.co.uk
Every little helps does it not!
Yes but out of the £1 you get for an endcap, you have to pay ebay fees, paypal fees, and there’s your time to list it and administer the sale. You’ve even got to invoice it! You may as well spend your time and effort selling an extra conservatory, or is there something I’m missing here?
Nope your not missing anything! But when people are desperate they will try anything.
DGB – I think that was the point Dave was making. Glad we’re all in agreement.
We always were
I suppose the point I’m trying to make is if you’ve got one,l don’t bother but if you’ve got five hundred of the buggers then go right ahead.
Andrew has made an intelligent comment, I am pretty sure he wasn’t referring to singular low value items …. no doubt many of us have frames/products which may have a value to other companies in the industry.
Get the website up Andrew and I’ll list all the new frames I’ve been storing for years*, most of the items results of my incompetence with a tape measure : )
*convincing myself we’ll find a good home for them!
Edward – re: new (old) frames. We’ve all got our graveyard of frames we save, because they’ll come in handy later.
Maybe I should do a Top 10 uPVC graveyards piece.
I wonder the value of these said items on individuals balance sheets – ’stock’
I think we should encourage architects designing new build homes to include lots of random sized arched windows into new houses and we can sell them all of our miss made arched frames at a greatly discounted price.
This is a win win situation, just think of the all quirky houses with lovely arched windows and really classy Georgian sunbursts all with self cleaning, solar protection glass and we, although loathe to part with them, can provide these aesthetically pleasing windows at a marginally discounted price.
I know you guys will be reluctant to part with these slightly distorted and often eccentric old friends, but I am sure that ultimately your head will rule your heart and you will let them go to a good home.
Andy – I agree, we’ve got 10 arched doors all exactly the same size waiting for a good home. So, if any architect is designing 10 houses for people who are shorter than the average then I could do a very good deal on this.
I might be able to help you out there RCG, a mate of mine, a certain miss White is building a house with seven vertically challenged friends, they don’t get on very well, different personalities all seven of them, one is really happy and another is really grumpy and that is just the start of it, bottom line is they all want their own entrance to the house and your short arched doors could be just the trick.
Great thing about these little guys is they are great window fitters and they will work all day for virtually nothing, I guess if you gave them the doors you could get rid of most of your subbies and get them to work for you for a year at least in a trade for your doors.
Only thing is you will have to supply your customers with ear plugs, they sing the same
….ing song all day long.
Just had a thought….Why dont we sell our mis-measures on Frame-Bay (could this be the start of something big?)
Why not just use window auctions for anything the double glazing industry wants to shift, liquidated machinery, and all the other crap that’s out there. If you had the search criteria right and switched on and the items were logged properly it could work…
How many times have you been hunting for that part and never found it, obviously you’d all have to pay me commision on every sale just for the idea…
I’ll start ringing Wurth and Gap to see if they’re interested in stocking all their products on there too…
No who’s going to run my company???
