A quieter conservatory roof

This is a demonstration video of the Silent Roof System.

Their website claims:

  • Silent Roof System gives you up to 3 times the rain noise reduction without the huge cost! No more rain noise
  • Silent Roof System reduces the heat build up in summer! No more sweltering heat in the summer
  • Silent Roof System deflects the sunlight that means no more eye-watering glare

I think the product looks good and there could be potential additional business from existing customers, however I sent an email enquiry to the firm that produces this product around 3 months ago, but never received a response so I don’t know if they are still trading.

Here’s a brief fitting overview from their site.

  1. Hi Dave

Surely this is just an extra sheet of polycarbonate over the top of the existing roof? Hardly revolutionary design, but I agree there may be the opportunity for extra sales with a system like this.

Saying that, with most of the conservatories today being either glass or thicker polycarbonate, conservatory roofs are getting quieter.

Earlier lean-to models with 16mm polycarbonate (or even 10mm) would benefit from this, although I’m sure most of the industry would rather sell someone a new conservatory…

  2. Matthew, not sure what the material is, something you can cut with a knife or scissors I think.

I have 35mm poly in my own conservatory (with foil inserts) and you can’t hear yourself think when it rains. Yes, glass is quietest I believe.

You’re right, better off spending your time selling another conservatory rather than that.

  3. I’ll never forget around 10 years ago someone from Ultraframe told me that 10% of roofs being supplied in the UK were glass roofs, but that 90% of conservatory company owners chose glass. With that in mind, I went for a glass roof on my own conservatory. I think I made the right decision, but I get irritated with the dirt on the roof (even though it has an easy clean coating) and it gets hot when the sun’s out in the summer time (even though I have an industry leading solar control coating).

I’ve often thought I’d be better with 35mm poly with solar inserts.

  4. Yeah, my 35mm poly with solar inserts is great for heat reflection and glare reduction, however I would go for Activ Blue next time. Guess, its natural to want whatever you haven’t got.

I also have 2 x electric roof vents (SkyVents) and they are crap, can’t stop them leaking.

  5. Hi Guys
David never recived your email as I would have responded as we are going from strength to strength, possable got lost in the junk, send one FAO me if you have any questions.
I think the reason its turning out to be popular is it solves 3 of the most annoying problems, noise, glare and helps to prevent that massive heat build up.
Plus its easy to install, cheaper than blinds and inserts but does 3 jobs instead of 1.
As an add on to an existing customer base its an easy way for extra revenues.
We started to demonstrate the product at the local market and in 2 months we took 111 leads and got 47 jobs out of that.
The demand is there its just that most people are unaware of the product as yet.
The more people that are made aware the more calls we are getting and jobs as a result of that.
If any one has any questions please give me a call 077 181 647 13
    (Ralph, patent holder)
The material is a flexible, three dimensional matting, produced from polyamide monofilaments welded together where they cross to form a though, open structure. It has a flat back on one side, produced from monofilaments in an irregular, two-dimensional structure, which is thermally bonded to the three-dimensional structure.
The patent was granted this may and its early days, a ground floor opportunity for the right pepole….

Sounds alright , but with the extra weight on the panel how do you overcome the perennial polycarb slippage issues ? I guess the whole shootig match would slip with it ?
